2009 Jan. 23-31, 2009 Construction Project in Guatemala working on a new church building being built in Solola plus work with orphans and churches.The group returned safely on January 31, 2009. February 11-19, 2009 Kenya, East Africa to work in partnership with His Nets, NorthHaven Church and CBF missionaries in a mosquito net distribution project.A group of 8 (7 from NorthHaven and 1 guest from the Interfaith Dialogue group) returned on Feb. 20 from a trip to Kenya. Most of the 2500 nets were distributed and the swing set was installed. The group enjoyed visiting 3 provinces and hopefully beginning a long term relationship with one of the ICDC units. Everyone was blessed by the experience. Feb. 17-28, 2009 Leadership Training Project in India working with Banjara and Koya leaders and evangelizing in Thandas (villages) as well as helping with a Women’s Conference plus a Pastor School in 2 locations.This group of four included two Oklahoma pastors, who report an inspiring trip. If experience holds true they will both have some excellent sermon illustrations in the months ahead. The 2 ophthalmologists did cataract surgery while T visited in churches, schools, and clinics. April 25 - May 2, 2009 Medical Project in two Guatemala Refugee Camps near Tekel with former “revolutionaries” and two Indian villages. Many of these Mayans have been communists, but there is a Baptist missionary working with them now.The group of 21 medical personnel and others have returned from a week in Guatemala working in some difficult areas. We are grateful for your prayers and support. Look for pictures and stories in upcoming newsletters. May 2009 Montreal, Canada: Return to the Baptist camp one hour west of Montreal to continue work. Volunteers are needed to do light construction and renovation work for one week.Because of scheduling problems this trip has been postponed.
June 15-25, 2009 Ghana, West Africa to work in partnership with His Nets for a mosquito net distribution in Kumasi area. This will be our fifth distribution in Ghana in five years!This group of 4 from NorthHaven Church, Norman and Northwest Baptist Church, Ardmore has returned safely from 8 days in Ghana. Besides firming up partnership links with the Ghanaian Baptists, this group also distributed insecticide treated mosquito nets. July 12-17, 2009 KidsHeart light construction and renovation work along the Texas-Mexican border near Progreso. Thanks for you prayers for this successful trip. The participants returned safely on Friday, July 17, after 4 days of hard constructions work. They were able to work on several homes. 2008 Guatemala: Jan. 23-Feb 2, 2008 with 19 participants on a Medical, Pharmaceutical & Dental Project: The group held clinics in the Mayan village Las Majadas for two days; a one-day clinic in the state run orphanage at Quetzaltenango and another one-day clinic at the orphanage and church in Solola. The team also did construction work for two days on an Indian school (painted, refinished desks) and built cabinets for tool room in Solola. The group also worshipped in an Indian church.
Guatemala: March 14-22, 2008 with 18 college students on a Construction Project: The team worked half of the time on an orphanage and the other half on a public school. They also worshiped in a Mayan church and visited the Lake Atitlan area.
Montreal, Canada: May 24-31, 2008 with 6 participants from NorthHaven Church in Norman on a construction project: The group worked on the camp owned by the French Baptist Convention of Canada, redoing window, painting and generally getting the camp ready for the summer season. The team also worshiped in a French-speaking church on Sunday.
Ghana: June 24-July 2, 2008 with 9 participants to do a mosquito net distribution project with His Net: The team distributed 2,500 treated bed nets to 3 hospitals, 1 orphanage, and many churches. They also worshipped in Sokakope with team members sharing. One team member (J. J. Waggoner) is adopting a girl from the orphanage near the Togo border where nets were delivered.
Rio Grande Valley, Texas: July 13-18, 2008 with 12 participants working in partnership with KidsHeart: The group renovated two houses for disadvantaged Hispanic families, putting in electrical, plumbing, sheetrock and finishing work. The group purchased stove, bed, and materials for the families.
Gulfport, Mississippi: Oct. 19-24, 2008 with approximately 15 volunteers on a church building project: This team will work on the Grace Temple Baptist Church, Gulfport, which was destroyed by Katrina. The group anticipates doing electrical, plumbing, trim, framing, drywall and painting.
